But the Caribbean in Colombia is much more varied than dream beaches. With 1,600km of coast you will find a large range of landscapes. In the far north, the Guajira desert is populated by the indigenous Wayúu community. It is a contrasting landscape between the intense orange of the desert sand and the blue of the sea. Follow the coastline to find the Tayrona Park, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The park offers you a lush and exuberant forest with fine white sand beaches. The biodiversity of fauna and flora in the Park is remarkable. Here you will find colorful birds, monkeys, caimans, etc. The park is inhabited by several indigenous communities such as the Arhuacos and the Kogis and it is home to one of the most beautiful hikes in Colombia, the Lost City trek. Keep going down to find Barranquilla.
The city hosts the spectacular Carnival of Barranquilla every February. It is the most important folkloric celebration of Colombia. Then you will find La Fantastica, the pearl of the Caribbean, Cartagena de Indias. The city needs no introduction, it is a jewel of Spanish colonial architecture. Regarding islands you will find Rosario Islands and the San Bernardo archipelago composed of several islands with dream beaches. Finally the island of San Andres and Providencia are the two crown jewels of Colombia.
