DAY 10 : Canoe trip on the Magdalena river.

Day 1 : Departure to Colombia

The day has finally arrived. Departure from France towards Colombia:

  • Arrival in Bogotá
  • Welcome at the airport by your driver
  • Transfer and installation in your hotel located in the historic center of the city
  • Night in Bogotá

Day 2: Bogotá, 2,600 meters closer to the stars

Bogota is the most important city in the country in political, economic and cultural terms. With more than 8,000,000 inhabitants and located at an altitude of 2,600 meters, Bogota is the third highest capital in the world, after La Paz and Quito.

  • Visit of the historical center of Bogota, the Candelaria, accompanied by your guide.
  • Discover the Plaza Bolivar, named after the liberator Simon Bolívar, the Lievano Palace, Bogota’s City Hall, the Palace of Justice, the National Capitol, the Primada Cathedral, the Casa de Nariño and the Presidential Palace.
  • Afternoon free.
  • Night in Bogota.

Day 3 : YOPAL AND THE GUANAPALO RESERVE

The Oenoque is a very biodiverse region with more than 300 species of mammals, 1300 species of birds, 250 species of reptiles, etc.

  • Transfer to the airport to fly to Los Llanos, in Yopal, the capital of Casanare.
  • Reception at the airport and transfer by 4×4 to the natural reserve “El Encanto de Guanapalo”.
  • Lodging in a “Hato”, or typical house.
  • Delicious lunch.
  • Walking tour in the reserve.
  • Return to the reserve and dinner.
  • Night in Los Llanos.

Day 4: SAFARI IN LOS LLANOS

  • You will see a wide variety of local wildlife and birds that inhabit these floodplains of the reserve. It is a very well preserved ecosystem.
  • Breakfast
  • Start the day with your guide who will teach you how to milk a cow!
  • Departure a Curiara, a traditional canoe for artisanal fishing.
  • Go on a 2nd Safari Llanero but this time in 4×4. Return to Hato at the end of the afternoon.
  • Lunch
  • In the evening, live a unique experience listening to the myths and legends typical of this region of Colombia.
  • Having dinner
  • Night at the reserve.

Day 5: ENCANTO OF GUANAPALO

  • Breakfast
  • Do a workshop on local gastronomy or the typical artesanies of los Llanos, the choice is yours!
  • Lunch
  • Visit on horseback or in 4×4 the other hatos in order to completely discover the llanera culture
  • Having dinner
  • Night at the reserve

Day 6: FIRST CITY IN LATIN AMERICA

Santa Marta is the first city built by the Spaniards in South America. Founded on July 29, 1525, it is located between the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (highest coastal massif in the world, with 5,775 m of altitude just 42 km from the sea) and the Caribbean Sea.

Day 7: MINCA AND SIERRA NEVADA OF SANTA MARTA

One of the most popular nature destinations in Colombia. It is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada, 20 kilometers from Santa Marta. A paradise for lovers of wild nature, animals, hiking, large green spaces and sunsets.

  • Enjoy the waters that descend from the Sierra Nevada, in a waterfall that we will reach after a walk surrounded by lush vegetation.

Day 8 : NUEVA VENECIA

The Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta is a lagoon complex of great ecological value. It is a sanctuary of fauna and flora. Nueva Venecia is a village of houses on stilts of about 300 families of fishermen.

  • Breakfast
  • Transfer to the river port of Cienaga.
  • Fast boat ride to Nueva Venecia.
  • Observation of caimans, monkeys, manatees, iguanas, otters, brown herons, needle ducks, pelicans, etc.
  • Lunch.
  • Canoeing of the main places of the village.
  • Return by boat and then by car to Santa Marta.
  • Night in Santa Marta.

Day 9 : SANTA CRUZ DE MOMPOX

Magic realism impregnates everything here. Gabriel García Márquez, in his novel “The General in his Labyrinth”, refers to the glorious past of Santa Cruz de Mompox.

  • Transfer to Mompox.
  • Free afternoon to walk around the village.
  • Night in Mompox.

Day 10: PIJIÑO SWAMP

The amazing feeling of discovering Mompox in the middle of nowhere is also felt after a trip down the river in the Pijiño swamp.

  • Canoeing in the Pijiño Marsh.
  • Observation of typical birds of the Magdalena River
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Night in Mompox.

Day 11: ARRIVAL IN CARTAGENA

Cartagena de Indias has extensive fortifications and one of the most comprehensive systems of military fortifications in South America. The city of Cartagena de Indias and its fortress are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
