Trekking in Colombia, the best destinations

Colombia offers many opportunities for hikers and trekkers. The trails are rarely used, giving you the feeling of being a true adventurer on all the scenic routes. Although the development of hiking infrastructure is still in its infancy, with three high-altitude mountain ranges, Colombia is becoming one of the best hiking destinations in the world. Trekking in Colombia can be a smart way to see another side of the country and escape the big cities.

Trekking in Colombia can take place through the Andes, the desert, the Amazon, or the Caribbean.
Here are the destinations recommended by Magelia Colombia for trekking in Colombia.

Trekking in Colombia

The Lost City, Santa Marta

A lost city, buried under the jungle and rediscovered only about fifty years ago, is hidden in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Colombia. A multi-day hike that is very famous among backpackers for its intimacy, its darkness, the impressive forest environment and above all, the ancient city that awaits you at the end! The route can be done in 4 or 5 days, normally there are outings every day throughout the year. This hike is perhaps one of the most beautiful in Colombia but it is also very difficult (more than 40 km, many climbs and heat) but it is worth it. Trekking to the Lost City offers you the opportunity to embark on a fascinating journey through the Tayrona route, in an unforgettable adventure through the thick humid and tropical jungle with inestimable natural wealth. Nevado del Tolima, Tolima

This volcano, at 5,215 meters above sea level, is the second highest mountain in Los Nevados National Park. Along with Nevado del Ruiz and Nevado de Santa Isabel, they form the park’s main tourist attraction, three mountains covered in ice and snow. The Nevado del Tolima hike lasts four days, during which you will climb to the summit of the Nevado.

The view is spectacular, and with clear skies, you can see the entire park and other mountains. Along this route, you will be able to admire the Paramo with its extraordinary vegetation, a unique region of Colombia. Accommodation is provided by locals, adding to the charm of this adventure.

Snow-capped peaks, a rare and endemic environment, and high-altitude alpine lakes—discover the incredible 3-day hike in Los Nevados National Park. This location offers several other hikes that will get your heart pumping, so a good level of fitness is required. The trek is adaptable to your desires, with the option of tackling the summit of Santa Isabel Peak or walking at a lower altitude around an alpine lake.
